چکیده

The analysis of the nonequilibrium cr T diagrams constructed from the results oftension/cornpression thermornechanical tests with [001] Cu-based shape memory alloy/SMA/ single crystals was found to be a good way how to understand complex path dependent phenomena exhibited by SMA single crystals. Particularly, it has been shown that the yi martensite phase forming in Cu-based SMA may exist in much wider range of stress-temperature conditions than would be expected just from the results of thermal cycles or tensile loading-unloading tests with single crystals usually presented in the literature.

INFLUENCE OF THE Al CONTENT ON THE PHASE TRANSFORMATIONS IN Cu-Al-Ag ALLOYS

The literature about alloys of the Cu-Al system is extensive, due to its practical use. These alloys are of low cost and present good strength and hardness, depending on the Al content. They are used for making sleeves, guides, seats, flanges, gear wheels and many other critical small parts, as electrolysis cell cathodes, circuit plates and casting moulds when high thermal conductivity is neede...

ON THE INHIBITION OF STABILISATION OF MARTENSITE IN Cu-Zn-AI ALLOYS

A shape memory device, and thus the alloy, when not operating is generally held in the martensitic condition. Also the shape memory effect depends on the retransformation of the martensite to the parent phase (i). Use of an alloy in a temperature controlling device, therefore, demands reliability and reproducibility of this retransformation temperature with shape memory cycles and more particul...

Morphology Evolution on the Fracture Surface and Fracture Mechanisms of Multiphase Nanostructured ZrCu-Base Alloys

A multiphase nanostructured ZrCu-base bulk alloy which showed a unique microstructure consisting of sub-micrometer scale Zr₂Cu solid solution, nano-sized twinned plate-like ZrCu martensite (ZrCu (M)), and retained ZrCu (B2) austenite was fabricated by copper mold casting. The observation of periodic morphology evolution on the fracture surface of the multiphase nanostructured ZrCu-base alloys h...

A jumping shape memory alloy under heat

Shape memory alloys are typical temperature-sensitive metallic functional materials due to superelasticity and shape recovery characteristics. The conventional shape memory effect involves the formation and deformation of thermally induced martensite and its reverse transformation. The shape recovery process usually takes place over a temperature range, showing relatively low temperature-sensit...

Stabilization and Two Way Shape Memory Effect in Cu-Al-Mn Alloys Transforming at Elevated Temperatures

Stabilization of martensite and two way shape memory effect (TWSME) was studied in Cu-Ai-Mn alloys containing 9.7-11.8 wt% Al, and 3.0-9.25 wt% Mn, which were quenched to various temperatures. The transforming temperatures were in the range -70 to +220°C. The majority of alloys quenched directly to martensite did not show reverse transformation on heating due to stabilization and further temper...
